once known as heleleka, his name was later changed to hilili prior to the turn of the century. he was so named because of the enchanting call he makes. he made his debut appearance among the hopis of the first mesa, but was often called a witch or powak kachina by the other two disapproving mesas; however, it was not long before his popularity as a guard kachina and admiration for his rapid dance began to increase. now, he is found on all the mesas in a great variety of forms. this is hilili as he may appear in a kiva dance. created with colored ink on paper.
